Blazing Trails Across Continents : Akash Satpathy’s Journey from Jharkhand to Global Academic Excellence

Akash Satpathy, an odia boy from the neighbouring Singhbhum District of Jharkhand received his Masters degree on 16th May ’25 from the University of Arizona in Artificial Intelligence after graduating from there in Astronomy and Data Science. As an undergraduate, he was part of the ongoing and famous Neo-Wise project that seeks to protect the earth from a colliding Meteor more than a Century from now. During the early years in the University, he had shined as a very good debator and a philanthropist. He has been associated there with the philanthropy movement for students of poor countries , called Effective Altruism and headed it in the campus. Son of Anup Satpathy ( IRTS), the Principal Chief Operations Manager of North Eastern Railway, Gorakhpur & Mrs Parijata Satpathy,Akash has been outstanding in studies, sports and extra curricular activities from his child hood. He had joined this American University reputed for it’s strong faculty in Astronomy and Data science after scoring very high in the SAT exams and securing a hefty financial aid from there. Before joining the University of Arizona, for his Undergrads he received his school education mostly at Nagpur where his father was posted for long. Besides science , he has varied other interests like cycling, sports, travelling, reading, debating etc. With his roots in a middle class Odia family back in India, Akash is very simple, spartan and humble in demeanor. Born into a deeply religious family , he has turned to be a vegan in food habits and keeps a kind and liberal world view.

Thanks to his inspiration and guidance, after her higher secondary education from Welham Girls’ School , Dehradun, Ira his sister has also cleared SAT creditably, secured very attractive financial aid and joined the DePauw University in USA for her graduation in Humanities. This both the siblings have set examples of hard work, perseverance and academic excellence for friends and relatives to emulate.
