Bhubaneswar( KCN) :
BJD strongly condemns the incident of police attacking journalists working during the holy Rath Yatra by inviting them to Puri,
In a press statement today, the party’s media coordinator and spokesperson Dr. Lenin Mohanty said that the state government’s Information and Public Relations Department took the working accredited journalists to Puri in a special bus from Jayadev Bhavan in Bhubaneswar. After reaching there, the police did not allow them to collect news even after showing their cordon passes and identity cards. On the contrary, many senior journalists were seriously injured due to the police’s misbehavior and beating. Senior journalist Ramesh Mohanty was seriously injured, while Prabhu Kalyan Mohapatra, Pradyuman Kumar Mohanty, Sanat Mishra and Haraprasad Das suffered chest injuries. Female journalist Vijayajitha Tripathi has been admitted to the hospital with a serious injury to her hand. Apart from these, many journalists have also been injured in the police beating and could not perform their duties.

Shri Mohanty also said that every year, the Information and Public Relations Department makes special arrangements to broadcast news of the holy Rath Yatra. But this year, due to the incompetence of the state government

, journalists were beaten up by the police in the temple. BJD strongly condemns such inhumane behavior of the police on the fourth pillar of democracy. The Chief Minister should intervene in this and take immediate action against the officials responsible for the disruption of the holy Rath Yatra
